Jasahn M. Larsosa

Jasahn M. Larsosa is a Detroit-based American activist, community organizer, and civil rights and human services leader. He is the husband of Krystal Larsosa, a candidate for Detroit City Council in District 1, for whom he also serves as Chief Strategist and campaign chair. In summer of 2021, he made an unsuccessful bid for Detroit mayor when he and his wife announced joint campaigns. Having wholly hedged his bets on and generated new enthusiasm among people not normally engaged in the political process, Jasahn Larsosa reported having failed to amass the necessary resources to translate the excitement of thousands of marginalized people across the city into votes.
Formerly incarcerated as a result of the catastrophically misguided War on Drugs, a major campaign point for Larsosa involved decriminalizing drug use in order to emphasize treatment, education, and enterprising opportunity for young people. “The War on Drugs isn’t all that was misguided.” Larsosa said. “I made my own share of missteps, as do so many of our youth, while navigating poverty and trauma. The difference is, I benefited from exceptional opportunities that ought to be the rule” he said.
Other campaign points were his promise to generate the national attention needed to attract the brilliance, work ethic, and investment of new Black and Brown folks in order to grow the city while also creating and contracting with Detroit-based businesses in order to circulate the Detroit dollar.
Larsosa serves currently as Founding Director of Advocacy, Equity, & Community Empowerment for the renowned civil rights and human services organization Focus: HOPE.
